Juventus host Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea in their Champions League group stage tie. The two teams are powerhouses in their respective leagues and both are coached by men who pay a lot of attention to the defensive side of things.
Thomas Tuchel and Massimiliano Allegri will face off in a match that one can ironically say "May the best defence win". Below are all you need to know about the Champions League tie.
Date and Venue
The game is set to be played on Wednesday 29th September along with other important UCL games. It is set to be held at the Allianz stadium in Turin Italy.
It gives the Italians home advantage as they have made their stadium into something of a fortress in recent years. It remains to be seen whether they can capitalize on this advantage and snatch all three points against Chelsea.
This Chelsea lineup is their strongest on paper as it includes all of their star players playing in the right positions set by Tuchels tactics. A back three including Azpilicueta is preferred to one with Christensen as the Spaniard provides more for them on the pitch both in attack and defence.
Lukaku is one unsure player here as Tuchel could decide to opt for pace over hold up play by playing Werner like he did in the UCL final last season against Man City. The Kante and Jorginho pairing provides them stability in midfield as Thomas Tuchel relies heavily on his defence.
Chelsea will be without Christian Pulisic due to injury but both Mount and Reece James have picked up knocks and will be expected to start should they be declared fit.
Juventus could be without Paulo Dybala which explains Kulusevski's inclusion in the team. Bentancur and Locatelli have been very productive for them and their partnership could once again be important for this juventus team in their match against Chelsea.
Head to head
The two teams have not really faced off much as they have met only 4 times in European competitions. 2 of those four matches ended as draws with Chelsea winning one in 2009 and Juventus winning their most recent match which was in 2012.
This presents a level field for the two teams as no one has a major advantage over another one. The London side will be looking to take the game to this Juventus side that have not been impressive in recent years.
This is going to be a tightly contested affair with both team boasting of enough quality to beat the other. They both play good defensive football and one will expect a tightly contested game with the victors winning narrowly.
Juventus recent form dosen't do them justice as they have been poor as opposed to Chelsea who are just coming off a Champions League winning campaign. Authors prediction Juventus 0-2 Chelsea.
