Manchester United returned to UEFA Champions League action today as they hosted Villarreal at the Old Trafford Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Red Devils made a great come back in today's match as they came from behind to narrowly defeat Villarreal 2-1 at full-time.
Well, here are the four things I observed from today's Champions League fixture involving Manchester United and Villarreal.
1, Jadon Sancho Returns To The Starting Lineup For Manchester United.
Jadon Sancho returned to the starting lineup for Manchester United in today's match when they faced Villarreal. The 22-year-old played in the left-wing for Manchester United today as he regained his usual spot in the team which was occupied by Paul Pogba in their previous match against Aston Villa.
2, Villarreal Were A Huge Threat To Manchester United In The First Half.
Villarreal didn't sit back in the opening minutes of the match as they created a few goalscoring chances which could have gotten them the lead easily. David De Gea was solid in goal as he made great saves to prevent Villarreal from scoring in the first half. Raphael Varane also pulled off a great clearance in the first half when Villarreal came close to scoring. The first half ended goalless between both sides.
3, Villarreal Were More Fierce On The Attack And Could Have Won Today's Match.
Villarreal got the first goal of the match in the 53rd minute through a lovely effort from Paco Alcacer. A few minutes later, Manchester United drew level through left-back Alex Telles as he scored a brilliant goal in the match. Villarreal had the better chances of the game which they could have capitalised on if not for David De Gea's brilliance in goal.
4, Cristiano Ronaldo Sealed An important Win For Manchester United Today.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a man in form as he came to the rescue of Manchester United once again in today's match. The Portuguese International benefitted from a neat pass made by Jesse Lingard to score the late winning goal for Manchester United in the match. The 36-year-old took laws into his hands as he give Man United their first win of the Champions League this season.
