What Does The Ballon d'Or Nomination List Tell Us About Man United

France Football has released a 30 man shortlist for their annual presentation of the prestigious Ballon d'Or award. This list has been met with mixed reactions as some people believe it was well arranged while others are of the opinion that it has players that shouldn't be among.

The nominee list contains two Manchester United players (Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes) and below is an explanation of how the inclusion of these two players show the weakness of the Manchester United team.

First of all, when we consider the criteria for the nominations we can realize that Cristiano Ronaldo was not nominated for his performance at United rather his heroics for Juventus earned him a top 30 spot. The Red Devils are then least with just one Contestant who is Bruno Fernandes.

The fact that the team has one player in the 30 man list sounds alright until you realize that out of the 30 players 15 are based in the EPL. That brings Manchester United's percentage of players in the 30 man list to 3.3% and their percentage among EPL players on the list to 6.67%. This means that of the 15 EPL players on the 30 man list Manchester United contributed a meagre 6.67% which is poor for a team of their calibre.

In a world where Manchester City we're able to produce 5 nominees with Chelsea bringing 5 also it is somewhat shameful that a team of Man United's calibre has only two nominees with one not really a Manchester United nominee.

This is an opportunity for the players and the higher-ups to reflect and make changes to the running of the club. Many fans are getting more disappointed by the day, many players are playing lackadaisically even ratings of the club keep going down. A change in the running of things is necessary to ensure that next year the Red Devils can stand tall amongst their peers

What changes do you think need to be made to the club? Make your opinions known in the comments section.
