Top 5 Current Best Goalkeepers In Africa (Photos)

5. Denis Onyango

In addition to playing goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns and the Uganda national team, Denis Onyango is a professional footballer from Uganda.

Prior to joining Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, Onyango began his professional football career in his native Nigeria. This is his second FIFA Club World Cup win with Mamelodi Sundowns, having won the first with the club in 2016. He was named the year's best African-based player in 2016. The International Federation of Football History & Statistics ranked him as the tenth greatest goalkeeper in the world for 2016.

He is one of the current best goalkeepers in Africa.

3. André Onana

He is now the Cameroonian national team goalie and a 25-year-old professional soccer player for Ajax of the Netherlands.

Onana was signed by FC Barcelona eleven years ago after beginning his career at the Samuel Eto'o Foundation in Ghana. He's been with Ajax for six years now.

Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund were both interested in the young goalie with legitimate talent. Onana, on the other hand, received an anti-doping suspension from UEFA eight months ago after failing a drug test. André Onana is one of Europe's and Africa's top goalkeepers right now, and it's no surprise.

3. Amigo Gomis

As a goalkeeper for Rennes and the Senegal national team, Amigo Alfred Junior Gomis was born in Senegal and currently resides in France.

A top goalkeeper in Africa right now, Gomis is known for his quick reflexes, athleticism, and exceptional shot-stopping ability.

Four years ago, Gomis was selected to play for the Senegal national football team. In Senegal's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, he made his senior international debut.

2. Mohamed El Shenawy

El Sayed Mohamed Mohamed El Shenawy Gomaa is a 32-year-old Egyptian professional soccer player currently playing as a goalkeeper for Al Ahly and the Egypt national team.

Widely acknowledged as one of the current top goalkeepers in Africa, Shenawy has won 3 Egyptian Premier League titles, the Egyptian Super Cup, and the 2020 CAF Champions League, with his current team.

Three years ago, he made his debut international soccer appearance for the Egypt national team in a friendly match and was included as the starting goalkeeper for their squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

1. Édouard Mendy

Édouard Osoque Mendy is a 29-year-old professional football player currently playing as a goalkeeper for the English club, Chelsea, and the Senegal national team.

Mendy started his goalkeeping career in France, where he played in the Le Havre academy until signing professional deal with Cherbourg in 2011. Signed to the Premier League team, Chelsea, last year, Mendy swiftly established himself as the club's new first-choice goalkeeper and preserved 16 clean sheets in his first Premier League season. In the same season, he equalled the record held by Santiago Cañizares and Keylor Navas for most clean sheets in a Champions League season with nine, and played a vital role in the final which saw Chelsea defeat Manchester City this year. With the Senegal national team, he became the first choice goalkeeper for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mendy was named the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Season after being widely recognized as Africa's greatest goalkeeper and one of Europe's best.
