It is now over 454 days ago, and it looks set to continue till at least week 33 fixtures of the current Premier League season. A long time, right? That's exactly how long Manchester United have gone without a Premier League away defeat. Every ground they have gone in that time, they have managed to come back undefeated.
As of today, Manchester United have gone a whopping 23 Premier League away games without losing any. Although, this figure does not represent the all-time figure, it is an incredible achievement considering they have been to grounds like the City of Manchester Stadium, Stamford Bridge, Emirate Stadium and so on without tasting defeat in the league.
In fact, if only away games are to be counted in that time frame, Manchester United would be champions now. This season alone, they are yet to lose a Premier League game. The manner in which they have gone about their away business is absolutely mind-blowing.
On more than one occasion, they have recovered from losing positions to winning the games outrightly. Whether it's coming from a goal or two goals down, they have kept on going.
On that note, let's take a look at the results of the 23 away games from which Manchester United have tasted defeat. Let's remind ourselves that the last home team to win when Manchester United were the visitor was at Liverpool at Anfield on 19th of January 2020. On that day, Liverpool defeated Manchester United by a 2 – 0 scoreline.
After this defeat at Anfield, the 23 Unbeaten Away Games began with a 2 – 0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. They followed that up with two 1 all draws at Tottenham and Everton.
They then coasted to five clean sheet victories at Brighton, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Burnley. These clean sheet victories were followed up by another six away victories, in which Manchester United conceded first but rallied back to win the games outrightly.
In some of those games, they were down by two goals, only for them to equalize and go on to win. They then had a 2 – 2 at Leicester before beating Fulham by two goals to one.
To continue this run, a series of stalemates were added from their visits to Liverpool, Arsenal, West brom and Chelsea. At this point it was 20 away games unbeaten.
Then the visit to their do called “noisy neighbors” came. City were on a 20 games winning streak while United were on a 20 Unbeaten away games. In the end, the Red Devils beat the Citizens 2 – 0 to end Pep Guardiola's team 20 games winning streak to extend their own unbeaten away games to 21.
Manchester United then followed this up with a goalless draw at Crystal Palace before defeating José Mourinho's Tottenham last week. Their next away game will be at Leeds United who have proven to some big teams that they are no pushovers. What's more, it is a match that has rivalry in it and the team will be looking to avenge the 6 – 2 demolition they suffered at the hands of Manchester United earlier this season.
In these games, Manchester United scored w total of 44 goals and conceded just 16 while keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.
How long do you think they can continue this impressive away run? Do you think they can match and surpass Arsenal's all-time record of 27 away games unbeaten?
