Why VAR & Referee Did Not Cancel The Controversial Offside Goal Against Manchester United

Manchester United defeated Atalanta in their UEFA Champions League match day 3 encounter at Old Trafford. The red devils came from two goals down to win their visitors by 3:2.

The visitors took an early lead through a controversial offside goal within 15 minutes of play. The fans thought the video assistant referee would cancel the goal after review, but the goal was given to the Atalanta.

The red devils came in the second half with high expectations of winning the match. Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire restored parity in the game with their goals before Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning goal for the red devils at 81 minutes.

The fans were disappointed with the video assistant referee decision to allow Mario Pasalic goal to stand. Davide Zappacosta crossed a ball into the 18 yard box, poor defending from Harry Maguire and Lindelof saw Mario Pasalic running ahead of them to score the goal.

The decisions take by the video assistant referee was 100% correct because the ball was already ahead of Mario Pasalic before Davide Zappacosta crossed it. Since the ball was ahead of the striker, there's no offside.

It was very hard for the fans to understand the decision taken by the center referee, but Cristiano Ronaldo late winning goal changed the story.
