Lionel Messi celebrates and facetimes family on pitch as he finally wins international trophy

Angel di Maria scored the game-winning goal at the Maracana stadium, lobbing a superb Rodrigo De Paul pass over Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson midway through the first half.

Argentina has won the Copa America for the first time in 28 years, and it was a significant personal victory for their best player, Lionel Messi.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner has been a beaten finalist four times with Argentina, three times in the Copa America and once in the World Cup, but at the age of 34, he finally guided his country to triumph.

Due to the lack of fans at the stadium in Rio, Messi facetimed his family after the match on the field, and his joy was noticeable.

Due to COVID constraints, his family was unable to join him in Brazil to enjoy his moment of glory.

Messi was then spotted dancing in the locker room while teammates yelled his name.

“We were locked up for several days, but the goal was clear, and we were able to be champions,” he said.

“The joy is overwhelming. This is something I'd wished for many times.”

“What a beautiful madness!” he exclaimed after posting a photo of himself with the trophy on social media. This is incredible. God, thank you.”
