REPORTS: Barcelona midfielder could finally quit the club next year

No doubts, Spanish LaLiga giants FC Barcelona are currently going through a bad patch in the ongoing 2021/2022 football season.

The Camp Nou side are still very much affected with the departure of club legend Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain and even though the club added the likes of Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong, they are still struggling so far.

The Camp Nou side are currently sitted in 9th position on the LaLiga table after a terrible run of form which left them with 12 points after their first seven league matches.

And coupled with that, Barcelona could now be rocked with reports that attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho is in line to leave the club when the transfer window opens next year.

The 29-year-old Brazil International, who joined Barcelona after leaving Liverpool in 2018 has failed to live up to expectations at the Camp Nou so far.

The experienced midfielder could not hit top form at Barcelona and was loaned out to Bundesliga side Bayern Munich during the 2019/2020 season.

However, the attacking midfielder was back in Barcelona for the 2020/2021 season where he impressed fairly, scoring three goals and recording two assists in 14 appearances in all competitions.

But then, Philippe Coutinho has made just six appearances in all competitions under manager Ronald Koeman this season and according to reports from The Sun, he could be on a move away from the club next year.

The reports claimed that Premier League side Newcastle United are looking to make Philippe Coutinho their first signing after the club was acquired by a new management.

The Premier League side, who have recently been acquired by Saudi Arabia-led consortium are now looking to sign new players to improve their squad next season and have set their sights on Philippe Coutinho.

That said, it remains to be seen if the experienced playmaker will be interested in making the switch to Newcastle United when the transfer window opens next year.
