South Africans Have Every Right To Be Outraged By The Officiating That Cost Them A Place At The WC

South Africans must have known that going to play the Black Stars of Ghana at the Cape Coast stadium was always going to be a difficult task for them. All they needed was a draw to make it to the next round of CAF World Cup 2022 Qualifiers.

After winning the first encounter of the group G tie in South Africa, they would have been confident of avoiding defeat to the Ghanaians but, unfortunately for them, the referee's bizarre decision to award a penalty to the home team in the first half condemned them to a 1-0 defeat.

The Bizzare Penalty Incident

Ghana won a corner kick, and when the ball was delivered into the South Africa box, Daniel Amartey threw himself to the ground and the referee immediately pointed to the spot, awarding Ghana a penalty.

That goal was the only goal of the match and it has automatically condemned South Africa's hope of qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar.

What South Africans Are Saying About The Officiating

In my opinion, I believe they have all the right in the world to be outraged by that officiating.

This is a very important match and the referee should have done a better job. Now, he has made the game all about him.

CAF too needs to make better decisions in appointing referees for such a high profile games. The referee is from Senegalese which is a West African country just like Ghana. So South Africans Have every right to feel they were harshly treated by the ref.
