The home team were looking to return to their usual form having lost four of their last five league games. Meanwhile,Chelsea were hoping to take all three points from this encounter as they looked to close the gap between them and 3rd placed Leicester city.
The first half of the game began with both sides having a fair share of the ball as they looked to cause damage to the other. Chelsea however looked more likely to open the scoring and the blues thought they had taken the lead after Timo Werner put the ball in the back of the net only for the goal to be chalked off by VAR.
The away side would however still take the lead just before halftime as industrious midfielder Mason Mount curled in a stunning strike from the edge of the box to give the blues the lead at halftime.
The second half saw Thomas Tuchel's men threaten to double their lead, but they were denied early in the second half as Liverpool's defence had to make certain interceptions.
The all important second goal in the game would elude both teams as they failed to find the back of the net in the second half with the game ending in a 1-0 favor to the London side.
