There is more to why Gabriel Martinelli has been ignored this season than what Arteta has explained.

Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal's young forward, has been missing in action this season and his absence has continued to generate some questions. Arsenal fans are concerned that the youngsters should not be benched, especially now that the club appears to be building and requires all of its best players.

Questions have been asked about the youngster who shone brightly in his debut season at Arsenal after he arrived from Ituano on the recommendation of Arsenal's former scout, Francis Caggio.

In response to the question about why Gabriel Martinelli hasn’t featured recently, Arteta said: "Well, because of the number of players we have in those positions, he had some games that he played. Well, he had some games that he played because of the number of guys we had in those spots. He started against Brentford, Chelsea, and yet another game. Unfortunately, he had an injury last week; it's a minor one, and we're not sure if he'll be ready to play on Monday.

"Gabi is someone in whom we have a lot of faith, and we need to provide room for him to develop within the group. When you consider the number of games he's played, injuries have been a major setback for him. We sometimes forget his age, and we need to help him maintain that balance because frustration can arise from a diagnosis that is, in my opinion, not very realistic, and time is needed."

Mikel Arteta only points to the number of players competing for the spot in which Gabriel is playing, and injuries as the reason why the Brazilian has not been featured and may not feature for Arsenal on Monday. But in my opinion, I think there is something more.

Mikel Arteta is just being gracious with his words. Besides, that's one of the attributes of a coach. But in the position in which Martinelli plays, which is in attack, Gabriel has proven himself more valuable and dangerous upfront. I don't see more than 3 players who can surpass him there, besides Aubameyang has not been in his best form, not just recently, but since last season. But it's apparent that when a coach dislikes a player, there is not much the player can do to impress, and I think that's the situation Gabriel Martinelli finds himself in under Mikel Arteta.

In my opinion, Mikel Arteta needs to explain and give a valid reason why Martinelli has been reduced to inactivity despite being one of the best youngsters in the Arsenal camp.
