The UEFA Champions League is Europe's biggest club football competition which cut across all football clubs in countries under UEFA. The competition is played by top four clubs in European leagues for each season.

The 2012 UEFA Champions League Final was played on the 19 of May 2012 in Germany between FC Bayern Munich and Chelsea FC of England. However, Chelsea Football Club and its Squad for that final is our focus.

The 2012 Final was hosted by the Allainz Arena, Bayern Munich own backyard. Bayern were making their ninth appearance at final of the Champions League while Chelsea were making their second appearance as finalists.

The two giants qualifed top of their groups; on their way to the final Bayern beats Basel, Marseille and Real Madrid, while Chelsea on the other hand defeated Napoli, Benfica and the 2011 defending champions Barcelona.

Both Chelsea and Bayern had a number of key players missing due to suspensions, missing for Bayern are David Alaba, Holger Badstuber and Luiz Gustavo, while Chelsea were without Branislav Ivanović, Raul Meireles, Ramires and John Terry.

Mueller's header

Bayern were put in front by a late Thomas Mueller header, but the King of finals Didier Drogba (man of the match) equalizer with just some minutes left to the end of the match pushing it into extra time.

Drogba's equalizer

The German were awarded a penalty after Drogba brought down Ribery in Chelsea goal area, the Flying Dutchman (Arjen Robben) stepped up for the spot kick but was saved by UEFA's Fans Man of the Match (Petr Cech).

The match was dominated by Bayern Munich from start to finish. The match ended 1:1 after the extra time and Chelsea eventually won 4:3 on penalty after loosing to Manchester United on penalty in 2008.

Enroute to the final nobody ever tipped Chelsea to win the UEFA Champions League that year as they were struggling back home in the Premier League which led to the sack of Andreas Villa Boas. It was an ex Blues man Roberto Di Mateo that did the impossible by winning the Champions League and an FA Cup as an Interim Manager of the club.
