Check Out The Club With Most Homegrown Players In 2022/23 EPL

Most English Premier League (EPL) clubs have homegrown players in their 2022/23 squad. A close look at these teams shows that only one of them has up to ten former academy player. Which club is it and who are the footballers involved?

The EPL side with ten players from youth sides is Manchester United. The best among these stars (currently) is Marcus Rashford, the winger with the highest score in the English top tier. The 25-year-old Englishman joined moved from Red Devils' U-18 team to the senior team on January 1, 2016. Since he was promoted, the right-footer has made 356 appearances for the former FIFA Club World Cup winners. This season alone, he has scored 25 goals (in all competitions) for United. Another homegrown player of note in the team is Scott McTominay, a Scotland international. This defensive midfielder joined the academy at the age of 6. He moved through the age grades until he became a senior team player in 2017. Both of his goals this season have come from cup competitions. His first goal was in a Europa League group match against Omonia Nikosia while the second was against Aston Villa in tge Carabao Cup. Interestingly, both were winning goals.

Twenty-year-old Anthony Elanga is among these decade of players. The Cameroonian-born Swedish left-winger moved to the club's youth outfit in 2015 and became a senior team player in the winter of 2022. The only left-back among them is Brandon Paul Brian Williams. He has only made one appearance for the Red Devils this season. The two non Europeans among them are Alejandro Garnacho (Argentina) and Zidane Iqbal (Iraq).

Other former academy players in the team are Tom Heaton, Kobbie Mainoo, Teden Mengi and Mason Greenwood. Heaton (who is one of the three goalkeepers in the club) is the oldest among them while 17-year-old Mainoo is the youngest.

Can any of these players stay as long as Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes who made 672 and 499 appearances respectively for Manchester United?
