The Real Reasons Why Players Get Yellow Card For Removing Their Jersey

Since 2014, taking off your shirt after scoring a goal as a form of celebration became an offense in football. The penalty for removing ones shirt or jersey during goal celebration is a yellow card.

The real reasons fall into many categories. One of the reasons is that many players usually take time to put back their jersey making it difficult for them to return to the pitch on time. At other times, it is regarded as over exaggeration or over celebration.

Another reason is inciting messages some players tend to pass through the removal of their shirts. Some footballers usually wear shirts with religious and cultural inciting messages. It has been seen many times where football players would wear some shirts under their jersey for the purpose of showing their fans after scoring a goal. A rule has been made to penalize any player who exaggerate their celebration with a yellow card.
