Deal close – £290,000-a-week star to agree fresh terms with Manchester United – Report
In the January transfer window, Paul Pogba was heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United (Tutto Sport).
If the latest reports in the media are anything to go by then the French international is close to agreeing a new deal with the Red Devils.
According to an exclusive story covered by The Sun last night, the Les Bleus midfielder is close to agreeing a fresh five year deal and Manchester United are confident of making the announcement at the end of the campaign.
The renowned British source have stated that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was preparing for the next season without Pogba in his plans but the Norwegian is now happy with the club’s record signing.
Since rejoining us back in 2016, the former Juventus star has been highly inconsistent. Moreover, this season, he has spent majority of his time on the treatment table.
So, in all fairness, I was of the view that he should be sold in the summer transfer window. However, things have changed now.
Since his return from injury and since the resumption of football, Pogba has been in top form. More importantly, he has been able to form a great understanding with star playmaker Bruno Fernandes.
The Portuguese international joined us in the winter window and since his arrival, he has taken all the pressure and the lime light away from Pogba, that has helped the Frenchman perform well.
Therefore, if the 27-year-old does end up signing the new contract, then, Solskjaer should not splash the cash for a new midfielder. Hopefully, the £290,000-a-week star (The Sun) will be consistent from now onwards.
Man Utd news round-up: Club still target Tolisso, Jones to Serie A, Martial-Skriniar swap deal
Man Utd refuse to abandon pursuit of former Lyon midfielder
Bayern Munich star Corentin Tolisso has reportedly remained as a transfer target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.
While the Premier League giants have been recently linked with Corentin’s teammate Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool are considered as the favourites to secure a deal for the Spaniard.
Although other midfielders are on their transfer radar, Le 10 Sport says that United are still keen on signing Tolisso.
The Frenchman, who has only made 15 starts across all competitions this season, has two years remaining on his deal.
With Die Roten open to raising transfer funds for other stars, it has left the France international at risk of being sold by the Bundesliga giants.
Still only 25 years of age, Corentin surely has time to get back to his best again after his difficult time in Bundesliga, and the former Lyon ace could do an important job in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Corentin could be a useful upgrade on the likes of Fred and Nemanja Matic, who, despite their recent improvements, haven’t always been the most reliable performers in that department of the pitch for United.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain have allegedly identified Manchester United star Marcus Rashford as their number one transfer target this summer.
The Ligue 1 giants currently boast the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the attack, but both players have been linked with transfers away amid interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
The Independent reports that they have earmarked Rashford as a player who could fill in for either star should they leave the club, but who could also complement the pair if they sign new contracts at the Parc des Princes.
Phil Jones is reportedly being lined up for a surprise Serie A switch this summer transfer market.
The Athletic states United’s pariah centre-half could end up plying his trade in Italy following his former teammate Chris Smalling’s success at Roma.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred partnership has been Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire, with Eric Bailly playing back-up.
The Dutch star, Axel Tuanzebe is also being tipped for a chance next campaign, while United continue to be mentioned with a new defender.
And that means Phil is likely to leave after featuring just twice in the Premier League this campaign.
Jones joined the club from Blackburn back in 2011 and was tipped to become a future captain.
But in spite of playing under Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, David Moyes and Solskjaer, he has never been able to fully convince the Old Trafford faithful.
However, Phil could now be handed a fresh start in Italy thanks to Chris’ success in the capital with Roma.
The 30-year-old Fulham man has played 32 times across all competitions after a loan move last year.
And Roma are ready to make Chris’ deal permanent, leading to a surge of interest in English misfits from cash-strapped Serie A sides.
However, Jones could yet receive a PL lifeline with West Ham, who are managed by former United head coach Moyes.
The Scot is also said to be keen on a move for Jesse Lingard, another Red Devils star who Solskjaer appears to have no use for.
Inter line up bid for Man Utd No.9 with Slovak star to be offered as part of deal
Inter Milan are planning to engineer a deal for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial this summer and will offer centre-half Milan Skriniar in part-exchange for the in-form attacker.
Martial has been in fine form since the PL restart, taking his tally to 16 league goals for the campaign with a superb strike against Southampton on Monday.
It seems highly unlikely that United would be willing to let the 24-year-old star go, with him in the best goal-scoring form of his professional career, but Italian publication Calciomercato report that I Nerazzurri will test their resolve over the next transfer market.
Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona this summer and the Italians see Anthony as the ideal replacement, should the Argentine forward quit the club.
However, they recognise the difficulty they’ll have to tempt United into selling the Frenchman, who has a contract at the club until 2024.
The Italian outlet suggests the France international has a market value of ‘no less than €70m (£63.5m)’ which is true that it isn’t less than that, in reality it is probably much higher.
Inter will look to tempt Ole’s side into a sale by offering Skriniar as part of the deal, with the 25-year-old star regularly linked with a move to the Premier League over the last year.
The Slovak centre-half has been a regular in the Inter defence since his 2017 move from Sampdoria and attracted the interest of other clubs, including Manchester City.
