After a successful preliminary stage, Africa most prominent inter club competition, CAF Champions League, kicked off with many mouth watering fixtures as the quest for continental glory gets underway.
A total of 16games were in offer at the weekend with a total of 36goals scored, below are the results and a review of the games.
1. Amazulu v TP Mazembe
With the reverse game billed for next weekend, Amazulu will be faced with an uphill task as they visit the beautiful country of DR Congo to face TP Mazembe. A win for TP Mazembe at home sends the South African side parking from the competition.
Kenyan based side, Tusker FC, welcomed Egyptian side, Zamalek, in one of the fixtures in the CAF champions league at the weekend
Zamalek showed off superiority and class as they piped the home side by a lone goal courtesy of Achraf Bencharki 47min strike.
With the first fixture favouring the visitors, Tusker will be faced with a big task of defeating the Egyptian side or scoring a lone goal to upset the home side when both teams meets in Egypt next week.
3. APR v Etoile Sahel
Rwandan league campaigners, APR, welcomed it's Tunisian opponents at the weekend in a keenly contested fixture which ended in a stalemate.
With nothing separating the two sides at full time and Etoile scoring a goal away from home, APR will be faced with a litmus test next weekend in the reverse fixture in Tunis.
4. Sagrada v Royal Leopards
Angola topflight league outfit, Sagrada, welcomed,Royal Eswatini based team to its fortress at the weekend for a Champions league date.
The Angolan side recorded a (3-1) convincing win over Royal Eswatini paramilitary team. Royal Leopards are as good as eliminated only if they pull a surprise next weekend by wining the visitors by a high goal margin.
5. Asec Mimosas v CR Belouizdad
Traditional Ivorian side, Asec Mimosas Pummled it's Algerian opponents by a (3-1) margin in one of the CAF champions league played at the Weeknd.
With the big win, Asec Mimosas, has one leg into the competition next change, the team aim can turn a mere dream if the Algerian side records a win with a big goal margin when both teams meets in Algiers next week.
6. US Gendarmerie v Al Ahly
Niamey based , Union Sportive de la Gendarmerie had their hands full as they traded tackles with the competition defending champions, Al Ahly on Saturday.
The Niamey based Clubside pulled off a big surprise as they held the defending champions to a (1-1) draw at home.
With the scoreline, the Niamey based side chances of qualification turns slim as they would face with an uphill task of winning or holding the defending champions to a draw when both teams meet in the reverse fixture next week.
7.Al-Merreikh v Zanaco
Sudanese topflight giant's, Al-Merrikh, brightened it's chance of making it to the CAF champions league next stage as thumbed off visitors, Zanaco on a (3-0)
With the big margin, Zanaco chances of going beyond the current stage looks blur at they can only brighten it with a convincing win with an over 3.5goals when both teams meet next week for the reverse fixture.
8. Stade Malien v Horoya
Prominent CAF Champions League steady campaigners kicked off its Campaign in the current CAF season with a slim win away from home as they piped, Stade Malien, before their home fans.
9. Jwaneng Galaxy v Simba
Botswana side, Jwaneng Galaxy, suffered a big blow in its CAF Champions League campaign as they started off on a losing note earlier today.
Simba stepped a leg into the competition next stage following the big win (0-2) away from home as just a win will see the team through to the next round.
10. Maniema v Mamelodi Sundowns
DR Congo side, Maniema, gave stars studded South African Giants, Mamelodi Sundowns, a run their money as they played out a (2-2) draw earlier today.
With the result, Sundowns stands a big chance of advancing as just a win with a lone goal would see them through.
11. Nouadhibou v ES Setif
The Mauritania based team pulled off a big win over Algerian giant's, Es Setif, with a (3-1) scoreline.
With the scoreline and game outcome, Algerian side will be faced with an uphill task as they would require to beat the Mauritania side with a big goal margin.
12. Otoho D'oyo v Petro Athletico
The new boys from Congo made strong statement as they Salvaged a point when all hope were lost to bring the scoreline to (2-2) at full time.
Otoho D'oyo will be faced with a huge task of winning and scoring a goal away to Petro Athletico in the reverse fixture next week.
13. Hearts of Oak v Wydad Athletic
Ghanaian giant's worked out a slim win wagainst Moroccan giant, Wydad Casablanca as the two sides clashed in Accra at the weekend.
Oak stands a chance of progressing to the next round with a goal or a draw in Casablanca when the reverse fixture comes underway at the weekend.
14. LPRC Oiler v Raja Casablanca
Raja Casablanca ranks amongst the teams it's advancement into the CAF champions league next round look almost 'Certain' following a massive win away from home against, LPRC.
With the big result, a draw or a slim win at home will the Moroccan side through to thee next round after the reverse fixture.
15. Rivers United v Al-Hilal Omuduman
Wasteful Nigerian representatives made life difficult for themselves as the game in Rivers State, Nigeria ended in (1-1) stalemate.
Rivers United will be faced with an uphill task in the reverse fixture in Sudan next week as only an outright win or big goal margin can see them through.
16. Al-Ittihad v Esperanza
The Esperanza side kept cool and ran away with a point in Libya as a win would see them through in the second leg in Tunis at the weekend.
