Would Ronaldo Be A Worthy Recipient Of The 2021 Ballon d'or Award Given His Goalscoring Exploits?

Following the release of the 30-man nomination list, the race for the 2021 Ballon d'or award continues to intensify and it could be one of the closest we have seen in recent times. Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandoski, Jorginho and Karim Benzema are some of the biggest names in the frame, but one other name that can certainly not be left out is that of Cristiano Ronaldo, the man who has proven himself to be a goal machine over the years. For some reason the Portuguese International is making a case of his own as he chases what will be his sixth Ballon d'or award should the voting go in his favor next month. However, while many may disagree with Ronaldo bagging this award owing to the fact that he hasn't won any major silverware this year, one mustn't forget that this accolade is set up to honor the best player in a particular calendar year and to this the Manchester United talisman has been phenomenal this year.

Statistically, this year alone, the Portugese International has been at the heart of breaking and creating new records some of which includes; the all time International top scorer, all time top scorer at the UEFA Euro tournament, all time leader in the International hat-trick scoring chart, among others. He is now 6 strikes away from bagging 800 official goals in his career, one that has never been done by any player, past or present. Perhaps his latest hat-trick against Luxembourg may have just swinged the tie in his favor just as it did for him in 2013 after his treble against Sweden in the FIFA World Cup playoff.

However, should Ronaldo win it, it will not be the first time he has done so without a major trophy to his name and considering the fact that the Ballon d'or award is not for the best team, but the best player, he deserves it just as any other player on the nomination list would.

Do you think the Portugese International would be a worthy recipient of the 2021 Ballon d'or award given his goalscoring exploits?
