Africa and Europe have both come a long way in playing football. Though European countries have won the World Cup more than any other continent in the world, no country in Africa has gone beyond the Quarter final.
European players have also won the World Player of The Year numerous times, Africa has only won it once.
Yet that does not mean African footballers are inferior to their European counterparts.
I decided to come up with a list of Best Ever 11 of both continents. As always, feel free to share your views.
1. Lev Yashin
Regarded as the greatest goalkeeper in history, Yashin is the only goalkeeper to ever win the Best Player In The World.
2. Bobby Moore.
Moore captained England to World Cup glory in 1966. Pele said Moore is the toughest opponent he ever faced. That will show you just how good Bobby Moore was.
Without doubt, the greatest left full back in the history of football. He played top flight football for 25 years and World Soccer Magazine voted him Best Player In The World in 1994.
4. Lothar Mathaus.
Diego Maradona attested the toughest opponent he ever faced was Lothar Mathaus. Mathaus won the European Championship in 1980 and led Germany to World Cup glory in 1990. He won the World Footballer of the year in 1991 and European Footballer of the year in 1990.
5. Franco Baresi
The greatest defender ever, in my opinion. After the World Cup final in 1994 Romario said this about Baresi: He gave me the most ruthless monitoring of my entire career. Baresi was voted Man of The Match even though Italy lost.
6. Franz Beckanbauer.
He won everything as a footballer: World Cup, Europe Cup, Uefa Champions Cup and twice European footballer of the year.
7. Johan Cruyff.
Pep Guardiola calls him the most influential figure in the history of football. Cruyff is the first player to win the European footballer of the year three times. He also won the Uefa Champions league three times and best player at the 1974 World Cup.
8. Marco Van Basten.
Three times European footballer of the year, Marco Van Basten was a ruthless finisher. His bicycle kicks were a pleasure to behold and in the final of the European Championship in 1988 he scored a goal that made his manager, Rinus Michel shed tears.
9. Gerd Muller.
The German bomber, Gerd Muller was not as flashy as some strikers but he scored goals like no one else. He won the World Cup in 1974 and was voted European footballer of the year in 1970.

When Bayern Munich lost the Uefa Champions league final in 1999 most people were moved to tears as Ossei wept uncontrollably. But he'd smile in 2001, when Bayern were crowned Champions.

A two time African Footballer of the year, Kanu won the Uefa Champions league in 1995, with Ajax. He was both delicate and deadly.
