Chelsea have up to three players in almost every playing position, some players in the squad are still yet to make an appearance in the starting lineup while some are yet to come on as a substitute. Chelsea still have a long way to go this season and they'll be needing all the help they could get.
Ross Barkley is the player who haven't made an appearance in all competitions this season, he has played a competitive game under Thomas Tuchel. He had a good pre season with Chelsea but Thomas Tuchel have never turned to him in all matches played this season. The Englishman has appeared as a substitute on several occasions but failed to make an appearance.
Ross Barkley spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, the Englishman left on loan likely because of the summer signings that came in last season. There's no spot in the midfield position for the Englishman, it will be difficult to bench players like Mateo Kovacic, N'golo Kante and Jorginho for Ross Barkley. Chelsea still have Ruben Loftus Cheek and Saul Niguez in midfield, Chelsea's midfield has been the most competitive position.
Ross Barkley might make his first appearance in the Carabao Cup round this week against Aston Villa. Thomas Tuchel might still decide to snub the Englishman this week. Ross Barkley plays in the attacking midfield position, he won't fit in N'golo Kante's position. He's more likely to play behind the center forward as a winger or an attacking midfielder.
Chelsea still have more matches ahead of them N'golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho will definitely suffer from fatigue if they keep appearing in every game. Thomas Tuchel will have to make Ross Barkley step up sooner or later.
