Chelsea have publically been chasing Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz for some time now. And although Blues manager Frank Lampard has tried time and again to quell those rumours, they keep getting stronger by the day.
However, the main obstacle to the move seems to be the price. Havertz is highly valued by Leverkusen, who have placed a hefty price tag on their star youngster. The German club are reportedly asking for a fee in the region of £90million, as they look to get full value for the 21-year old.
That remains, but something else has changed. And its a good development, as it may mean we are close to a deal.
According to reports, Chelsea have edged a step closer to completing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, as the German club will now allow Chelsea to be flexible in their payment of the fee.
German Outlet Sport Bild have provided an update on thew move, and they claim that while Leverkusen are still holding out for a handsome sum, they have changed their stance on how the money is to be paid.
Leverkusen are now willing to accept a deal which includes add-ons and different bonuses. This is as Chelsea are keen to spread the payment over a period of years, with a number of performance related bonuses included.
Considering they're still chasing new targets this summer, especially as they try to repair a leaky defence, it wouldn't make much sense if Chelsea forked out £90million for an attacker. So this development is a huge boost to the Blues' plans, as a major obstacle may well be out of the way.
