Top 5 Tallest Arsenal Players In The 2020 Squad

Who are the five tallest Arsenal players this season? Bernd Leno‘s height? Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s height?Granit Xhaka‘s height?

Which Arsenal players are the tallest? Here, we take a look at the tallest Arsenal players in the current squad.

Arsenal have a lot of tall sturdy figures in the senior side. So which Arsenal players are the tallest among them all?

Tallest Arsenal Player 2020

Height is no longer as appreciated in world football as it was in the olden days. With the game becoming more technical, a level of skill in all aspects will give him more notoriety than his height.

However, it is still a very important factor for defenders and goalkeepers. A player’s length gives him/her a significant advantage in aerial duels. Teams usually prefer tall centre-backs and goalkeepers in order to stop the opposing team from scoring. Traditional strikers who like to play as a sole target man up front is highly dependent on his height.

Of course, there are exceptions in midfield like Manchester United’s Paul Pogba who towers over all at 6 feet 3 inches and then proceeds to dribble past you like Andres Iniesta.

5 Tallest Arsenal Players This Season 2020

Up till this season, Petr Cech was the tallest player in the Arsenal ranks at 6 feet 6 inches but since he is about to hang up his boots, we will not include him in this list. Players like Dejan Liev and Zech Medley are next in the line of tall players but they have not yet been promoted to the senior side. Hence, their names will be excluded as well.

5. Sokratis Papastathopoulos

The Greek defender is listed at 6 feet 1 inch (1.86m) and he is the fifth tallest Arsenal player. Sokratis is a strong, athletic centre-half who has decent pace under his boots and is able to create plays from the back.

He came into the side in the summer of 2018 for £17.6m. Based on his impact on this Gunners side, you can imagine how much Borussia Dortmund misses him. Sokratis does rely on his height and brute strength to bully attackers off the ball.

4. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

I have mentioned above that some strikers who play as traditional number nines are usually tall men with well-built physiques. Aubameyang is certainly tall but he is not any usual centre-forward.

The Gabon international has a sleek built which helps him sprint off the line faster than anyone. He is astute at running behind the opposition defence and scoring on the open play.

It is his pace which and positioning which makes him one of the most dangerous strikers in the world. His long nimble legs are modelled with enough twitch fibre to beat any defender in a straight sprint.

3. Rob Holding

Rob Holding is slightly taller than Aubameyang at 1.89m which is around 6 feet 2 inches tall. The 23-year-old defender arrived at the Emirates in July 2016 for only £2m.

He went through a difficult period early on in his Arsenal career, struggling to find playing time in the senior side. He was finally making a case for himself under Unai Emery this past season when he got diagnosed with a serious knee injury.

Holding has a long road to recovery as the Gunners will desperately need his services next season. The Englishman is one of the defenders who is built like a modern player – athletic, relatively fast and has a decent touch of the ball.

2. Bernd Leno

Bernd Leno is Arsenal’s number one shot stopper but he is not necessarily the tallest among the world’s best keepers. The German arrived last summer on a £22.5m deal from Bayer Leverkusen and he has already himself to be one of the elite goalkeepers in the Premier League.

The sky is the limit for this 27-year-old and it all depends on his decision making and his reflexes. Leno is ridiculously skilled at one-on-one situations and is quick to the ball like a cheetah.

He stands at 6 feet 3 inches tall (1.90m).

1. Matt Macey

Matt Macey plays as a #23 goalkeeper for Arsenal. At 25 years of age, he stands at a whopping 2.01 metres or 6 feet 7 inches. That’s by far the tallest any Arsenal player can get! However, he might be leaving on a free transfer this summer. His stay at Arsenal has not been too successful and he might be looking to venture out to other clubs for more field time.
