Defenders with attacking instinct - Ronald Koeman, John Terry, Ramos and other Goalscoring Defenders

Goalkeepers are the last line in the Defense setup of a team. They are the last hope of the Managers to keep the goal out of the net. However, the presence of good Defenders in the squad is expected to keep the Goalkeeper from having to do much.

Defenders have just one task on the pitch - Keeping the opponents and the ball out of their box. Attackers are rated by number of goals and assists they recorded. For Defenders, they are rated by number of clearance, tackling and most importantly, clean sheets.

In last few seasons, Defenders have also been judged by the number of Goal contributions they make in a particular season.

The Fullbacks and the Wing-backs are in this category. This is why Chelsea wanted Achraf Hakimi, it's because he recorded a double figure assist for Inter Milan last season. It's also why Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are among the best rated fullbacks in the English premier league. The Liverpool duo don't just defend, they score goals and make assists.

While it's apparent that Defenders' main duty is to defend goals, it's definitely an added advantage if they can score goals.

Former Chelsea Captain John Terry is not one of the highest Goalscoring Defenders in history but he's the highest Goalscoring Defenders in the English premier league. Chelsea have won 5 English premier league title and John Terry contributed to all of it. No Defender in the English premier league has broke John Terry's record of 41 goals.

Former Real Madrid Captain Sergio Ramos is among the highest Goalscoring Defenders in history. There's no active Defender that have the number of goals that Sergio Ramos has. Sergio Ramos spent 16 years at Real Madrid and he scored 101 goals. He has a total of 128 goals for the Spanish National team and Real Madrid.

Barcelona Manager Ronald Koeman is the most prolific Defender in history. Although, the Dutchman played in the Midfield too, his natural role is defending. Ronald Koeman's 253 career goals will make some Strikers envious.

Newcastle United Manager Steve Bruce was a prolific Goalscoring Defender when he was playing football. He played mainly under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford but he also played for Gillingham, Norwich, Birmingham and Sheffield United. He scored a total of 133 goals throughout his career.

Most of these Goalscoring Defenders have retired but they set a high precedence for the current Defenders.
