Chelsea appear to be four points away from Champions League qualification. A feet that was unexpected at the start of the season. Chelsea have offered opportunity to academy prospects this season due to the transfer ban hammered on them by UEFA. Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori have been the highlights. Reece James and Billy Gilmour have been the added breakthrough.
Chelsea have been very active in the transfer market, they've acquired Timo Werner, and Hakim Ziyech from RB Leipzig and Ajax respectively to boost their attacking options all from the proceeds of Eden Hazard's sale to Real Madrid. Alvaro Morata's money is still very much available. The blues have been link with Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak to replace struggling Kepa Azipilicueta.
Strengthening attack without beefing up your defense is like building a house without a roof. Chelsea, have arguably the worst defense in the Premier League compare to the Champions elect Liverpool and second placed Man City. The Blues have conceded 49 goals in 36 matches, scoring 69 goals compare to Liverpool 77 goals and 27 goals conceded and Manchester City 93 goals and letting in 35.
Without much ado, here are two defenders that could make Chelsea title contenders next season
1. Kalidou Koulibaly
Lampard has tried out all the available centre back pairing but no seems to be working. Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Tomori and Christensen have all failed woefully with disheartening performance. The Naples centre back could be the solution to Chelsea defensive problems.. he has proven it over time.
The Senegalese is one of the best defenders in the world and best in Seria A. He is currently rated £80 million by Napoli.. should Chelsea get him, we could witness one of the best defenders commanding the defense of the Blues and possibly turning them from under dogs to favourite once again.
2. Nicolas Tagliafico
The Argentine could be a marque signing considering the blues urgency in search of a left back. Marcos Alonso is not a reliable left back and his work rate is often questionable. The blues are in pursuit of Leicester City Ben Chiwell but Leicester are not willing to let their first choice leave so cheap they're holding on to a £80 million asking price.
The 27-year-old is the best left back in Eredivisi. Chelsea could get him cheap and he can offer the same services others put on the table. He is a great option.
What do you think guys?
