Ligue 1: Nice vs Marseille rescheduled for October 27

The French League (LFP) set Monday for October 27 the date of the replay of an August match between Nice and Marseille which turned into a mess.

The LFP said in a statement that the location of the match would be announced later, but added that it would be broadcast live by its main streaming partner Amazon in France.

The league's disciplinary committee ruled last week that the game would be played on neutral ground and behind closed doors.

On August 22, the Nice hosts led the Mediterranean derby 1-0 at the Allianz Riviera with 15 minutes remaining when Marseillais Dimitri Payet fell after being hit by a bottle as he made his way to a corner .

Payet threw a bottle into the crowd as his teammates showed up to scold the home fans behind the goal.

Fans flocked to the pitch and a scrimmage ensued involving the players, staff, fans and stewards.

Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli had to be selected by members of his own staff.

The match was interrupted for over an hour and finally abandoned just before midnight local time after the opposing team refused to return to the pitch.

In scenes of pranks, the Nice players came out and the referee placed the ball near the corner flag where the game had been stopped, before whistling.

Nice had been moored two points from Ligue 1, although one was suspended, and was ordered to play three games behind closed doors.

The disciplinary committee granted Payet a one-match suspension and Marseille defender Alvaro Gonzalez a two-match suspension for hitting balls in the stands.

The rescheduled match will start at 9:00 p.m. local time during a rare free midweek for Marseille which is in the Europa League.
