The race for the Ballon dOr awards is still on with many candidates putting in some brilliant performances week in and out to fancy their chances of clinching the most coveted award in a footballer's career.
This weekend saw a majority of the Top contenders fumble in front of their home supporters to a shocking defeat without mustering a single shot on target while others couldn't feature due to injuries.
Today, we shall take a look at the general overview of these players in September ahead of their European competitions coming up next week.
6. Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint Germain)
Kylian Mbappe featured five times for the Parc Des Prince side across all competitions, scoring one goal and registering two assists in the process. He was however struggling with injuries during those periods.
His numbers in September doesn't quite seem good judging by how he started the season on a high flier. He however played a phenomenal role in their team's 100% winning record in the Ligue 1.
5. Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea)
Romelu Lukaku was extraordinary for the blue side as he scored three goals in four appearances for the club across all competitions. He scored the lone goal on the night of the UEFA Champions League to help his team win their first group stage match of the competition.
His team however finished in the second position above Manchester City after recording their first loss of the season as he fired blanks in the game.
4. Jorginho (Chelsea)
The UEFA Men's Player of the year hasn't been on his best form since the turn of the new season. The coach rather prefers Mateo Kovaçic over the midfield Maestro due to his slow start to the new campaign.
He is yet to score a goal nor register an assist but his master class displays in the middle of the park cannot go unnoticed. Let's hope he hits the ground running in October.
3. Lionel Messi ( Paris Saint Germain)
The Iconic footballer had a rough start to life in Paris as he has only managed to play one full game since he joined the French Capital club.
He has featured three times for the club without a goal nor an assist and was looking rusty in those games owing to his long absence from the sport after their Copa America win.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)
Since the Iconic footballer made a sensational return to Manchester United during the summer transfer window, he has been superb for the side across all competitions.
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored four goals in four appearances for the Red Devils with the striker missing out on a goal in their recent loss to Aston Villa during the weekend. His team has managed two wins and two losses in September.
1. Robert Lewandowski ( Bayern Münich)
The prolific goalscorer has hit the ground running with his incredible touch of brilliance in front of the goal as he registered four goals in four appearances for the Bavarian Giants.
He has failed to score just once during those games which happened to be their last match at the weekend against Greuther Furth. He was however the demolition man against FC Barcelona in their UEFA Champions League match as he bagged two goals at Nou Camp.
