How Naby Keita Contributed To The Severity Of His Injury On Sunday With His Odd Choice Of Shin Pads

It was really good to see Naby Keita grab a goal for Liverpool in the emphatic win over Manchester United on Sunday evening. The African star has struggled to nail down a starting role at the club since he joined from RB Leipzig, so when he put the ball in the back of the net to open the scoring, he justified Klopp's decision to start him in such a high profile game.

However, the Guinea international was stretchered off the field in the second half after he appeared to be badly injured by Paul Pogba who was a second half substitute for credit: getty images

Pogba got a red card for his dangerous challenge, but perhaps Naby Keita himself contributed to the severity of the injury with his choice of shin credit:

Naby Keita, like many players today is fond of using shin pads that are very tiny and don't offer as much protection as they should.

Looking at the image of his injury incident with Pogba, it is very obvious that the lack of proper shin pads maybe made the injury worse for Keita.

Although we don't quite know the severity of the injury, the fact that he was stretchered off means it must be serious.

The impact of Pogba's studs on his shin was on the area where the shin pads didn't reach to protect because they are so small.

A regular and recommended shin pads like the ones below might've done something, no matter how little to reduce the severity of his injury.

This is why FIFA demands that players use the shin pads in the first place.
