3 Things That Happened Prior To Man Utd's Last EPL Win In 2013 Which Has Repeated Again This Season

Reoccurrence of history is one thing that cannot be separated from football and as long as the game is on, one would do well to look back in an effort to pinpoint the events that occurred just prior to others. Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, Manchester United have struggled to finish at the summit of the Premier league table at the end of the season.

Precisely, eight campaigns have gone by since the Red Devils last laid their hands on the title, but they're looking more stronger this season and will be hoping for Premier league glory in their ninth time of asking.

In the spirit of this, check out three things that happened just prior to Manchester United's last title win in the 2012-13 campaign which has repeated again this season.

1- Chelsea Were The Defending Champions In Europe

In the season (2012-13) that Manchester United won their 20th Premier league title, the Blue contingent of West London were the defending European Champions, a title they won in 2012. Again, Chelsea are defending the Champions League this season.

2- Manchester City Were The Defending Champions In England

Just like Chelsea were the defending European Champions in 2012, Manchester City were the Premier league Champions, with Manchester United finishing as runner-up then, the same way they did last season.

3- A Central Striker Wore The Jersey Number 20

In the quest to win their 20th Premier league title, Manchester United acquired a veteran striker in Robin Van Persie and handed him the Jersey Number 20. The Dutchman soon became an indispensable player in the team as his goals and other contributions steered the club to domestic glory.

Since then, the Red Devils have been chasing their 21st title and earlier this season, another veteran central striker in Edinson Cavani has taken up the number 21 jersey just as it happened in 2012 with Van Persie wearing the figure 20.

It cannot be just a coincidence that the aforedescribed three scenarios has repeated again this season. With Chelsea as defending European Champions, Manchester City as defending Premier league Champions and Edinson Cavani, a central striker taking up the number 21 jersey, history might be bound to repeat itself once more as Manchester United chase their 21st domestic title this campaign.
