D'Tigers earlier lost the opening game against the Boomers of Australia 84:67 points in Saitama, Japan.
They also lost the second game to the Germans 99:92 with the highpoint for Nigeria being the 33 points scored by 2021 NBA champions with Milwaukee Bucks, Jordan Nwora.
The game against the Italians today was a make-or-break for Nigeria and D'Tigers started poorly losing the first quarter by 17:29.
They managed to raise their game in the second quarter and won dominantly by 22:11 points.
Their good form continued into the third quarter as they maintained their lead winning 24:16. However, as it has been the weak point of the team in all their games in the Olympics, they faltered in the fourth and last quarter losing with a heavy margin 8:24 - a 16 point difference to bow out of the games 81:70 points overall.
The Women team, D'Tigress have a game left to play against the host Japan who beat France in their first game and lost to USA in the second one.
A wide point win against the Japanese can qualify Nigeria as the third best team for the next round after losing the first two games against Team USA and France.
