4 clubs Frank Lampard could work after turning down Norwich job

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard looked set for a return to Premier League management following the sacking of Norwich City boss Daniel Farke.

Lampard was immediately installed as one of the bookmakers’ favourites for the role and reports suggested he had been offered the Carrow Road vacancy.

However, within hours of those stories breaking, Lampard asked not to be considered for the job, with former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith taking the reins of the Norfolk club.

Watford

Although veteran Italian boss Claudio Ranieri has only been in the Vicarage Road hot seat for less than a month, he is already second favourite to be the next manager fired in the Premier League. If Ranieri does get the boot, Lampard, according to ESPN, could see the Hornets job as a low-risk opportunity to try and keep the North London club in the top-flight – a feat that would surely earn him a bigger job further down the line.

Brentford

The Bees are in the top-flight and started in red-hot fashion, defeating London neighbours Arsenal on the opening day. However, four successive defeats – including their most recent loss to fellow relegation rivals Norwich – have started to raise the pressure on their coach. It wouldn’t be the first time to see a newly promoted side dispense with their manager’s services in a panic to try and change their fortunes.

Queens Park Rangers

QPR are another side that could enter Lampard’s thoughts. Reports suggested earlier this year that Rangers boss Mark Warburton was set to depart to take over as assistant technical director at the FA. These rumours were vehemently denied by both parties, but there is often no smoke without fire with these stories. Lampard has admitted he would be prepared to take a Championship job if the right opportunity arose. Like his last Championship club, Derby County, QPR is another former top-flight club that is on the cusp of being promotion contenders once again.

New York City FC

During the twilight of his playing days, Frank Lampard spent his final season playing in America’s Major League Soccer (MLS) for New York City FC. During his time with the Bronx Blues, he scored 15 goals in 29 appearances, which was a stunning average for a player aged 37. They are currently just four points away from missing out on the Final series playoffs, which could be the green light for Lampard to come in and breathe new life into the franchise.
