Mikel Arteta Explains Why He Substituted Lokonga In The Second Half Against Norwich

When Arsenal were trying to get a goal against Norwich, Mikel made a tactical decision by substituting Lokonga in the second half even though the youngster was having a brilliant game. Many fans were not satisfied with the change, but the manager has explained why he did that.

The gunners got their first win of the season after a hard fought battle against newly promoted side, Norwich. Arsenal dominated a major part of the game, but found it hard to unlock the Norwich defence. Although they had a couple of chances, but they couldn't convert it.

Arteta started a young midfield duo in the likes of Lokonga and Maitland-Niles. They did well, but their inexperience showed in the game. When the team was trying to get the goal, Arteta substituted Lokonga for Partey, and many fans were not happy about it. Even though it was a tactical decision by the manager, the fans felt he should have left him.

In a post match interview, the manager explained his decision by saying, "Lokonga came from Belgium duty with a tight hamstring and only trained half a day."
