Two Players Arsene Wenger Signed Directly From African Clubs (Photos)

1. George Weah:

George Weah is a retired Liberian professional footballer who is currently the president of Liberia. He became the first and only African player to win the ballon d'Or when he received the award in 1995. Weah played for a number of clubs across Africa and Europe like Mighty Barrolle, Invincible Eleven, Tonnerre Yaounde, AS Monaco, PSG, AC Milan, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Back in 1988 when Arsene Wenger was AS Monaco manager, he signed George Weah from Tonerre Yaounde, a football club based in Cameroon.

2. Kolo Toure:

Kolo Toure is a retired Ivorian professional footballer who currently serves as a coach at Premier League club Leicester City. He played as a centre back for various clubs such as ASEC Mimosas, Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Celtic. At international level, he won the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast in 2015.

When Arsene Wenger was Arsenal manager, he signed Kolo Toure from Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas in 2002.
