NAFDAC Places Nigerians On Alert Concerning Hand Sanitizers Placed On US Watch List

The United States of America recently placed some hand sanitizers produced in Mexico on its watch list as they feel it contained 'methanol contamination'.

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has therefore placed Nigerians on alert to the use of such hand sanitizers.

According to the agency, the hand sanitiser products from Mexico were labelled to contain ethanol but tested positive for methanol contamination.

According to the agency as made known by the Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, in a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, Methanol is a substance that can be toxic when absorbed through the skin and life-threatening when ingested. It is also not an acceptable ingredient in hand sanitiser or other drugs.

From the above, the bottom line is to look out for the country of production for hand sanitizers and other related products.
