Five Players Who Have Played As Goalkeepers For Their Clubs

Goalkeeping is one of the most significant positions in a football team. It is also regarded by many football fanatics as the most difficult spot to play in, as sometimes the victory of a team is highly dependent on the performance of the goalkeeper.

Also, players who are used in this position are those who have undergone goalkeeping trials are trained to play as natural goalkeepers. It can also be observed that in professional football, only the best of such players are used.

However, coaches sometimes result in the use of an outfield player in place of a natural goalkeeper. This happens when all of a team's goalkeepers are injured or barred from playing in a particular competition. Five outfield players who have played as goalkeepers for their clubs are also listed below.

1. Kyle Walker

Many fans may find it difficult to believe, but the defender became Manchester City's goalkeeper in a Champions League group stage game against Italian side Atalanta in the 2019/2020 season. Guardiola had to make this decision as Ederson was injured, and the club's second goal poacher Bravo was shown a red card.

2. Harry Kane

Even as it looks, Kane played for Tottenham as a shot-stopper against Asteras in a Europa League match. It was also funny seeing him concede a goal.

3. John Terry

In the 2006 season, Petr Cech's suffered a head injury while the Blues were playing against Reading. As backup keeper Cudicini was also knocked down in the same match and became unconscious, Terry was forced to move in as the goalkeeper. He did well as Chelsea still went on to secure victory in the game.

4. Dani Alves

While at PSG, the Brazilian appeared in the goalpost for the French side in 2018, after the team's keeper was sent off against Sochaux.

5. Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United also had to use Ferdinand in the post Van Der Sar was taken off due to injury, and Kuszczak saw red. The defender made an effort to save a penalty but failed.
