All attention now turn to the prestigious competition in Europe, the UEFA Champions League.

Defending Champions, Chelsea will face Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday in the opening UEFA Champions League group stage match in their quest to retain the title.

In their domestic match over the weekend, Chelsea had a 3-0 win against Dean Smith's Aston Villa in the English Premier League coming into this match. Chelsea's triumph was secured thanks to a brace from Belgian sensation Romelu Lukaku and a strike from Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

Meanwhike Russian side, Zenit Saint Petersburg, won their match 3-1 over Akhmat Grozny over the weekend too. The Russians won thanks to goals from Brazilian midfielder Wendel, veteran Russian player Aleksandr Yerokhin, and Brazilian striker Malcolm. Mohamed Konate of Burkina Faso scored the consolation goal for Akhmat Grozny.

Team News for Chelsea vs. Zenit Saint Petersburg


Chelsea will be missing USA forward Christian Pulisic, whilst French midfielder N'Golo Kante's participation in this match is uncertain. There are no reported problems other from that, and manager Thomas Tuchel should have a completely healthy squad at his disposal.

Christian Pulisic is currently injured for this match so he won't play. Ngolo Kante just returned to training but this mm such comes too soon for him. There are currently no suspensions for this encounter.


Meanwhile, Zenit Saint Petersburg boss Sergei Semak will be unable to rely upon Russian midfielder Magomed Ozdoyev, while center-back Dmitri Chistyakov's availability is in doubt.

For this match, Magomed Ozdoyev has been injured, Dmitri Chistyakov is doubtful,while there are no suspensions for the Russian side.
