With just a few months until the January transfer market reopens, Barcelona's plans to strengthen their attacking unit are already in action.
According to SPORT, despite the fact that things are set to improve once Ansu Fati is fully fit and players like Ousmane Dembele and Sergio Aguero return from injury, the Catalans are still looking to add to their attacking options during the January transfer window.
Any deal, however, could be contingent on Dembele's future. The French winger is in the final year of his contract with the Catalan giants and is yet to sign a new agreement. Barcelona has made a new offer to the Frenchman, which would extend his stay at Camp Nou until 2025.
However, nor Dembele nor his agent, Moussa Sissoko, have responded as of yet. Barcelona is urging his team to accept the terms offered in order to keep the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner at the club.
However, if no decision is reached by January, the Blaugrana will not hesitate to cash in on the Frenchman, according to the report. And, in case he leaves, Barcelona already has a readymade replacement in the form of Manchester City's Raheem Sterling.
The England international has been a target for the club since the summer, with director Mateu Alemany holding negotiations with City earlier this year, but no deal was reached. However, talks between the two teams have continued, and there is hope that a deal can be reached.
Sterling's contract with the Premier League champions expires in 2023, and he has no intention of extending it. According to rumours, the 26-year-old is eager to leave his current club and join Barcelona. Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, will not block his player's exit, according to the report.
If that's the case, Barcelona would want to sign Sterling on loan until the end of the season, with a buy option in the summer. For now, they are waiting for Dembele and his camp to make a decision before taking any action.
