Gianluigi Buffon registered 176 caps for Italy winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup before his retirement from international competitions. He also helped Italy qualify for the Euro 2012 finals which they lost to Spain.
Vitalijs Astafjevs made 167 caps for Latvia scoring 16 goals with the national team before his retirement from football.
Iker Casillas made 167 caps for Spain before his retirement from international competition. He's often regarded as the most successful Spanish Goalkeeper of all time.
Lothar Matthaus made 150 caps for West Germany making him the most capped German player of all time. Diego Maradona said Matthaus was the best rival he ever had. Matthaus was voted German Footballer of the Year in 1999 and 1990.
