From the regular scope, it has been observed that wingers find it easiest to adapt to the English games, especially these days when fullbacks regularly bomb on, hence leaving spaces in between them for the opposition to exploit.
Regardless of this, it's sad but true to say that not all wingers have the necessary abilities; speed, ruggedness and required physicality to perfect fulfil this mandate.
In the list below, are names of players who regardless of massive transfer fees, have failed to make reputable impressions as wingers in their respective teams in the last thirty years:
5. Angel di Maria (Manchester United).
Yes, he is an Argentinian international. He was a top player and was doing exquisitely well before he moved to Old Trafford in 2014 for a British fee of £59.7m. Sadly, he was unable to keep up with his and pace when he moved to Manchester United, scoring just four goals in a total of 32 appearances.
He was sold to Paris saint Germain for £44m where he shot up his performance to a very high level over the past five years.
4. Albert Luque (Newcastle).
A Spaniard who made a very strong reputation for himself while at Deportivo la Coruna, the Magpies hence seemed to have made a brilliant decision by shelling out £9m in the year 2005.
Sadly, consistent injuries, and a deformed state marred Luque's performance massively, resulting in him scoring only 3 goals in about 36 appearances at St. James' park.
3. Ahmed Musa (Leicester).
The Nigerian international was sold to the foxes at a cost of £16.6m from the CSKA Moscow, in July 2016. Sadly, regardless of the sizeable fee, he had had tremendous struggles establishing himself in his new club, as a first-team player.
He featured in about seven league starts during his first season, where he had only two goals, but didn't feature at all for Leicester in his second season before he was moved back to his former club, CSKA Moscow.
2. Bebe ( Manchester United).
Sir Alex Ferguson actually claimed not have ever seen the winger in action before he was sold to Victoria Guimaraes in 2010 for about £7.4m. It was quite apparent that the manager seemed to have trusted the recommendations of former assistant Carlos Queiroz.
However, Ferguson eventually realised the mistake that was made, signing Bebe who made only seven appearances before he was consequently sold of in 2014 to Benfica.
1. Joey Beauchamp (West Ham).
After Beauchamp was signed by the Hammers in 1994, within 58 days he left the club of his own accord and went to join Swindon Town in a swap deal for Adrian Whitbread.
He claimed he wasn't pleased with the fact that he had to travel from Oxford to West Ham's training ground everyday. Quite bizarre!
