Geronimo Rulli was the hero of the day as Spanish side Villarreal Football Club won their first major silverware since its inception. He saved the 11th spot kick from Manchester United goalkeeper David De gea.
The match had ended 1-1 on regulation time. The match then proceeded to 30 minutes of extra time still both team were inseparable. Both teams had converted 10 penalties and the two keepers had to face off. Rulli converted his own smartly while he saved David De gea's own calmly to win their first European trophy for Villarreal.

Gerōnimo Rulli is an Argentine. He joined Villarreal last year September after his loan deal expired in Montpellier. This is also is first trophy in all competition.
