UEFA Champions League

"We have to be optimistic." Xavi says ahead of UCL game against Benfica.

FC Barcelona Xavi's era with a derby win again Espanyol in a game that ended 1:0 in favor of men in blue and red. They are now in search of a more important win against Benfica at the new camp in the Champions League on Tuesday to boost their chances of qualification.

"I am more than satisfied with the game the other day. After watching the game repeated I see that we were very good until minute 82-83." Xavi Hernandez revealed what he feels about the derby win on Saturday at Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants started their Champions League campaign woefully; losing 3:0 to both Baryern Munich and Benfica in their first two games. However, they are looking forward to their third win on the bounce after beating Dynamo Kyiev 1:0 on match day 3 and 4. Their newly appointed manager had this to say: "We are talking about the Champions League. The pace and intensity will be very strong and Benfica have proven to be a very dangerous team. If we win we are through. We have to be optimistic and believe in it but without forgetting that in their stadium we lost 3-0."

The manager also spoke about the injured players, expressing his concern about the pure wingers availability. He said, "We will see how Dest, Dembélé and Sergi Roberto recover. We are practically without pure wingers, maybe Demir or Coutinho can play, but all of our pure wingers are injured. We will analyse the situation of Dembele and Dest, depending on today’s training session. If they have good sensations, they we play tomorrow. If not, we won’t rush him them back.”

The Spaniard is optimistic his side will earn all the three points tomorrow. He said, "Tomorrow I envision a victory, I prepare the team for that, we are in a positive situation and tomorrow is a huge opportunity to qualify, we are going to go for it. The formation doesn’t matter, the concept matters. Regardless of the system, our aim will be to press high, keep the ball, and play aggressive, attacking football.”

FC Barcelona will be aiming to avenge the 3:0 loss in the first leg. They will meet Baryern Munich on the last match day, a team they are less likely to get the better of and this makes tomorrow game more important for the Bulgarian side.
