Why Iheanacho & Onyeka's Impressive Form Came At The Right Time For Super Eagles' World Cup Journey

This weekend's premier league action did not fail to bring with it its intriguing and mouth watering fixtures. After about two weeks of international break, teams like Liverpool, Manchester united, Manchester city and Chelsea were all in action today as they resumed their quest for the silverware. Among these fixtures, Leicester's clash with Manchester united and Chelsea's victory over Brentford caught my attention.

As we all know, the world cup 2022 is drawing nearer and is around the corner. Even though only three teams have sealed their spot, more teams will be expected to qualify and compete for this prestigious trophy. Over the years, Nigeria have failed to make it to the semi-finals and also the knock-out stage of this tournament. This is due to the lack of quality players that will play their hearts out in the competition.

I believe that the wait is actually over!

During Leicester's game against Manchester united, Kelechi Iheanacho who have struggled for game time this season under Brenden Rodgers, proved to be an indispensable asset for his club as they bounced back from a 1-0 lead. Although the striker did not get on the score sheet, his work rate and his build-up were on another level. If the striker is paired with someone like Osimhen in that attack, Nigeria will not need to worry about goals.

Brentford on the other hand suffered a huge defeat in the hands of league leaders, Chelsea. The truth of the matter is that this team have proven to be one of the teams that has what it takes to be in the Premier league. Despite their defeat, the dazzling performance of Onyeka showed that the player could help his country go far in the next world cup competition.

If only these two players will maintain their form, and not get injured, Nigeria might not suffer the same fate as they did in their previous world cups.
