Football is full of surprises, as the outcome of a match can sometimes not be predicted, given that upsets often happen.

This season has so far produced a couple of upsets in games between the perceived big clubs and the underdogs.

Here are five upsets that have happen so far this season.

1. Real Madrid v Sheriff Tiraspol

This match is obviously one of the biggest upsets in the UEFA Champions League competition this season.

Almost every football fan could have bet their money on Los Blancos winning the match with a wide margin.

But the Spanish giants were stunned by the lowly ranked Moldovan club who pulled out a spectacular performance to see them emerge victorious at the Santiago Bernebau.

2. BSC Young Boys v Manchester United

Manchester United fans were disappointed after underdogs Young Boys came from a goal down to carry all three points from the encounter.

The Swiss club did not just win the game but were the better side from the encounter, as the Red Devils could not find their rhythm after Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off for a reckless tackle.

3. Bayern Munich v Eintracht Frankfurt

Frankfurt put up a brilliant display at the Allianz Arena when they took on Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Bayern were the clear favourites to win the game but were left stunned as Frankfurt took all three points from the encounter.

4. Rennes v Paris Saint Germain

Rennes handed Paris Saint Germain their first defeat of the season in the French Ligue 1 when they beat the French giants 2 - 0, despite the presence of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in the team.

5. Benfica v Barcelona

Benfica comfortably beat Barcelona in their UEFA Champions League match this season by three goals to nothing.
