Man United to trigger one year contract extension in midfielder's deal

According to various reports, Man United will trigger an option to renew midfielder Juan Mata's deal by a further one year. The 32 year old Spaniard had been expected to leave when his contract expires in the summer. However, the Star are reporting that United are set to trigger the extension and could attract a fee for him if he were to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Despite his lack of playing time, Mata is understood to be happy at Old Trafford and is also thought to be okay with the idea of spending a further season in Manchester.

Mata joined United far back in 2014 for a fee reported to be in the region of 37.1 million, a club record fee at the time. He has gone on to make over 250 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 50 goals in the process. Mata continues to be a very liked figure at the Old Trafford club and has been one of the club's better big money signings in recent time.
