Could Joao Felix still reach Mbappe and Halaand levels?

Joao Felix busted onto the scene at Benfica and was touted to succeed Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world along with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. However, the Portuguese seems to have regressed drastically compared to those two.

The 21-year-old joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica in the summer of 2019 for a deal worth €120m. It hasn’t yet worked out for the Portugal international at the Wanda Metropolitano, but he’s still displayed a potential that could evidently take him far in the long run.

The Portuguese believes he can still reach the level of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. During an interview carried by Diario AS, he said: “I can be. I have not yet reached my best level. In the last few seasons I’ve had several injuries and I’ve not enjoyed an injury-free season. But when that happens I think I can fight to be in that position.”

Since joining the Spanish giants, Felix has contributed six goals and provided one assist in his first season at the club and seven goals and six assists in his second. He’s yet to provide either a goal or an assist so far this campaign for the Spanish capital.

Like he maintained, he has the potential to challenge the Norwegian and the Frenchman to be the best player in the world. He has the qualities to fight and be in that position and could even displaced Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland if he is hardworking and goal oriented. He needs to be more focused on his abilities regardless of any hurdle.

In sum, the Portugal international is still determined to be at the level of Mbappe and Halaand despite suffering continuous injuries. However, whether he could be at their level or not remains to be seen.
