Promising young Nigeria midfielder returns to Arsenal

Promising Nigerian midfielder James Olayinka has returned to the Gunners after a loan stint with League 2 side Southend United.

The young midfielder joined Southend in 2020 after the loan move to Northampton Town ends. 

Unfortunately for Southend, the efforts of the youngster are not enough to save them from relegation. The Seasiders got relegated alongside Grimbsy Town and Scunthorpe.  

After the demotion to the National League, the Blues announced their retained and released squad ahead of the following season. In the release, they confirmed he can return to Arsenal.

The Nigerian midfielder joined Southend United on loan in October 2020 until January 2021 but the loan was extended until the end of the season.

He featured in 21 games under his belt in all competitions, scoring three goals, and was in action for 1,524 minutes.

Born in Lambeth, Olayinka Olayinka started his career with Arsenal and signed a professional contract in January 2021 began his career with the Gunners. 

Although he is yet to make his debut for Arsenal, he was named on the bench in the 2020 FA Community Shield as Arsenal triumph with a 5-4 victory over Liverpool on penalties.
