Barcelona Seems To Have Totally Lost Their Tactical Prowess After Messi's Departure

Life after the legendary Lionel Messi magnificent career in Spanish football seems to be getting more difficult for FC Barcelona, as they can no longer threaten any opponent, even against underdogs.

Since the past two decades, the Catalan giants used to be the most formidable club in European football, with their tactical prowess; composure, decisiveness, consistency and topnotch creativity. They were literally a constant threat to every other clubs, untill past few seasons that such glory started to diminish. Throughout these period, they won so many trophies, and their players then, among Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta were recognized on the biggest stage of prestigious individual award on different occasions. Barcelona was the first club in Europe top 5 League's to won Sextuple (all 6 available trophies) in a single season, that came in 2008/2009 under Pep Guardiola.

In 2015, Barcelona were still that very strong club, under Luis Enrique who guides them to their second historic Treble. The deadly trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar contributed significantly to the club success. So many clubs were often worried whenever they met Barcelona.

Just few seasons ago, before the departure of the Argentine superstar and Barcelona erstwhile captain in the last summer, the club inconsistency became more pronounced, not just in domestic league, but also in European elite competition.

Different managers, among Ernesto Valverde and Quique Setien tried to revive the Blaugranas lost glory, but their efforts was futile, before they eventually left the club.

With the arrival of former Netherlands and Barcelona defender, Ronald Koeman to take over Coaching job, many fans believe his experience would help reposition the club to greater level, but thing keep getting worse, especially in UEFA Champions League. This season without Messi, appears to have add more salt to Barca’s injury, as opponent no longer worry much when they face the 5 times European champions.
