World football governing body, FIFA, on Wednesday provided the Local Organizing Committee with a final go-ahead to stage the maiden edition of the Aisha Buhari Invitational Women's Tournament, otherwise known as the Aisha Buhari's Cup.
In a letter dated 8th September, 2021 and signed by Gordon Savic, Head of Qualifiers and International Matches, the World Body noted that it has sanctioned the 15th - 21st September showpiece that holds at Mobolaji Johnson Arena and Agege Stadium in the city of Lagos, featuring hosts Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, and South Africa's 'A' women team.
However, FIFA has approved the Aisha Buhari's Cup. This is evident in a statement release by the Football Governing Body: "In accordance with article 7 of the regulations, FIFA is happy to provide official authorization for this women's tier 1 tournament. We hereby remind the participating teams that the Laws of the Game must be strictly applied to these tier-1 matches"
In a country where people are dying everyday in IDP camps, homes are raided and lives are killed by bandits and herdsmen. In a country where insurgency and insecurity are the order of the day.
The World Football Body ought not to have approved the Cup. We have a lot of unresolved issues in the country. Hosting Aisha Buhari's Cup is not the paramount for now. This is an evidence that the international communities are less concerned about Nigeria's predicaments.
