Thomas Tuchel is the new hero at Stamford bridge, as he has greatly improved Chelsea since his arrival at the club. His tactical brilliance has seen Chelsea's defense ship in fewer goals and of course he has brought in yet another European trophy to the club. The London club later broke the bank to bring in another goalscoring magician, Romelu Lukaku but as prolific as the Belgian may be, there is a strong possibility that he may not win Chelsea the premier league title and here is why;
Having won the Champions League last season, they felt the only thing they need to challenge Manchester City for the EPL title, is to sign a world class striker. Tuchel and his team had to move mountains to bring in a striker, after pursuing Erling Haaland for the majority of the transfer period, and that showed how far Chelsea were willing to go, to get a proven goalscorer, but the mistake they may have made was, to put all their eggs in one basket this summer by signing Lukaku from Inter Milan.
As balanced as Chelsea's team may look on paper, the sale of Kurt Zouma without a replacement may contribute to Chelsea's downfall. Should significant injury/Injuries happen to a member in the center of defense, it may cost Chelsea, to experience what Liverpool went through in the 2020/2021 season, after they lost all their central defenders and midfielders were tasked with the job of the center backs. Should this happen, it automatically means that, the reason Lukaku was brought in the first place, may be defeated.
Perhaps, keeping either Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori or buying Kounde, would have made more sense, unless they do not experience major injuries. Lukaku can bag as many goals as possible, but without a solid defensive unit, the goals may not be enough to win Chelsea the Premiere league title.
