Super Eagles Defender Becomes the 5th Most Expensive Center Back Signed By A European Club

Super Eagles of Nigeria defender, Chidozie Awaziem is officially about to become a joint fifth most expensive, defender, in the history of the Super Eagles. The Nigerian center-back is set to officially complete a move to Portuguese side Boavista when this year's transfer window opens.

The Super Eagles defender joined Boavista on a season-long loan from FC Porto with the option to buy in his loan deal, Awaziem has been very impressive for Boavista in the 2020/2021 season and the club has triggered the buyout clause in his contract to sign the player on a permanent 5-year deal. Awziem will cost Boavista 5 million euros to aqcuire.

The record signing for Nigerian Defenders By European clubs is still held by the Atlanta Olympics gold medalist, Taribo West who cost Inter Milan €11m from French side Olympique Marseille, this record has been held for the past 24 years and has not been broken.

In second place is Ola Aina who was signed by Torino from Chelsea for €9m, Aina only spent a season with Torino before joining Fulham in the English Premier League who were recently relegated to the English Championship in the 2020/2021 season.

In number three position we have two Super Eagles stars sharing the spot, Olympic Marseille's Joseph Yobo who joined Everton in the English Premier League for €6m, and Sporting Lisbon's Joseph Enakarhire who also joined Dynamo Moscow for €6m also.

In the fifth position is Kenneth Omeruo who cost CD Leganes €5m when they signed him from Chelsea in 2019, he will be joined by Chidozie Awaziem in 5th place once he also officially completes his move to Boavista for €5m from FC Porto in the summer.
