Super Eagles of Nigeria star Taiwo Awoniyi was on target for Urs Fischer's Union Berlin FC in their League clash against City rival Hertha Berlin in the week 10 of the German Bundesliga on Friday night.
The Liverpool football club of England loan star was given a starting role by coach Urs Fischer ahead of star Striker Sebastian Griesbeck, and he was able to impress, as he scored a fine goal for the club to take the lead in the first half of the game.
The away team opened scoring through Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi in the 20th minutes with a fine goal, after receiving an assist from Marcus Ingvartsen to take the lead in the first half, despite having Robert Andrich being given a straight red card for unsportsmanlike behavior in the 23rd minutes.
The host then equalized through Peter Pekarik with a rebound in the 51st minutes after Union Berlin goalkeeper Andreas Luthe had earlier denied Matheus Cunha from scoring.
Substitute Krzysztof Piatek then put the home team ahead in the 74th minutes, after receiving an assist from Javairo Dilrosun, before he scored his second goal of the game in the 77th minutes to end the match 3-1 in favour of Bruno Labbadia's men.
Taiwo Awoniyi was outstanding for the away team, and his first half goal means he has scored his second goal of the season for Union Berlin FC in German Bundesliga. Despite banging in a goal in the first half Taiwo was superb in the game, but Robert Andrich's first half red card made him to be substituted for Sebastian Griesbeck in the second half.
The 3-1 defeat to City rival Hertha Berlin has now taken Union Berlin to the 6th spot in the German Bundesliga table with 16 points from 10 matches played.
