Premier League giants Chelsea advanced into the next round of the UEFA Champions League following their 2-1 victory over Rennes at Roazhon Park on Tuesday night. The game looked like it was going to end in a 1-1 draw but French striker Olivier Giroud sent Chelsea through to the next round of the UEFA Champions League with his winning goal in the 91st minute.
Chelsea have now picked up 10 points from 4 matches played which was enough to send the Blues into the next round of the Champions League. Timo Werner should have given Chelsea the lead in the 5th minute of the game but the German could only send his effort over the ball after Callum Hudson-Odoi Odoi puts it on a plate for him.
Odoi gave Chelsea the lead in the 22nd minute as his effort was enough to beat Gomis following a nice pass from Mason Mount. Gomis was at alert to deny Mason Mount's effort in the 30th minute of the game. The first half stayed that way as Chelsea entered into the half time break with a one-goal advantage.
Rennes threatened Chelsea goal in the second half of the game and were finally rewarded with a goal in the 85th minute through Guirassy who planted his header beyond Eduardo Mendy. Olivier Giroud restored Chelsea's lead in the 91st minute to send Chelsea into the next round of the Champions League with two games to spare.
